First of all, I would like to introduce temples and the grand palace in Bangkok.

その中でもまずは市内の寺院、宮殿について紹介したいと思います。

Wat Pho

aka the Temple of the Reclining Buddha.

ワットポー

涅槃仏で有名なお寺です。

Once you enter the temple, you will see beautiful architectures.

They are graves of Kings. The outside of the graves are decorated with beautiful ceramics.

The art is colorful and matches well with the clear sky in Bangkok.

お寺に入ると、まず、美しい建物に目を奪われます。

王様が眠っているお寺で、まわりは陶器で装飾されています。

そのカラフルな芸術がバンコクの青い空に映えます。

Wat Pho is also famous for Thai massage.
It is said that it is one of the oldest school of Thai massage.
Now, you can both learn and have a massage there.
Here's a photo of some pictures of people's body. 
I think it tells you some acupuncture points??
ワットポーはタイマッサージでも有名なお寺。
タイマッサージの学校として、もっとも古いといわれています。
今もマッサージを習うことも、受けることもできます。
この写真は寺院に飾られている人体の絵の写真。

Then, here's the reclining Buddha!
I think many people think of this Buddha when it comes to Thailand.
It did not disappoint my expectations, and it was very beautiful.
The smile of the Buddha was very warm.
Also it was interesting that the eyes of the Buddha were open while most of the Buddha in Japan close their eyes.
そして、これが涅槃仏！
タイ、といえばこの涅槃仏を思い浮かべる方も多いはず。
こちら、期待を裏切らない美しさでした。
ブッダの微笑みがとても穏やかで美しい。
目を開けているところも興味深いです。日本の大仏はほとんど目を閉じていますよね？

The legs of the Buddha are very long!

足がとても長い！

The length of the Buddha's toes are all the same, and it is one of its Buddha's characteristics.

足の指の長さが全て同じ！これは、このブッダの大きな特徴の一つなんです。

The back of the Buddha's feet is interesting as well.

足の裏も精巧な細工が。

Inside the room of the reclining Buddha, detailed drawings are written all over the walls.

It seems like a story tale, and people and Buddha are drawn so lively!

涅槃仏がいる部屋の壁は、細かい絵が描かれています。

ストーリーになっているみたいで、人々やブッダがとても生き生きと描かれています。

This art is interesting. You can kinda guess what is going on...??
このアートも興味深い。なにが起きているのか、だいたい分かる気が。

Last but not least, you really have to be careful with people around the temples.

They try to cheat you by many ways!

そして・・・寺院のまわりの人々には気をつけてください！

様々な手口を使って騙してきます。

1. A lady came up to us and if we were Thai. We said we were Japanese. She kept telling me we were beautiful, and our skins were so smooth and nice. She introduced herself as an English female teacher from Phuket. She said she just arrived at Bangkok, and she is about to look around the temples. She asked us to go around with her by taxi. . . 

寺院へ向かう途中のフワランポーン駅で、タクシーを探している途中で出会った女性。

タイ人？と声をかけてきました。明らかに、私たち、タイ人じゃないでしょう・・・。

日本人だとこたえると、彼女はプーケットで英語の教師をしていて、今回は観光でバンコクに来たとのこと。タクシーで寺院を一緒にまわらないか、と誘われました。

2. You can pretty much think that men around the temples are all cheaters if they are not wearing uniforms. 

We have encountered three cheaters. They tried to cheat us by saying that the grand palace is not open/ will be open later/ closed already because it was Sunday and the monks were praying, and told that they would take other beautiful temples instead. They  Also, they said that in the end, they would take us to a floating market.

寺院のまわりにいる制服を着ていない男性は、すべて詐欺師と思っても間違いないと思います。

今回、3人の詐欺師が話しかけてきました。彼らはみな、今日は日曜日だから、お坊さんが修行しているから、宮殿は今日開いていない/これから開く/もう閉じてしまった、と言って、変わりに別のお寺につれていってあげるよ～と声をかけてきました。

そして、最後は水上マーケットにつれていってあげるから、と。

これ、確実に怪しい！水上マーケットもセットだと、最後に高額請求されるパターンではないでしょうか。

Also, all of the drivers try to cheat by telling high expense, so please be really careful!

また、ドライバーはみんな、ふっかけてくるので、絶対そのままの値段で乗らないべき！

a beautiful city, TOKYO

Walked toward Shibuya from Harajuku.

It was such a nice time to have a walk! The sky was beautiful.

I love Meiji street. People look cool, stores look interesting, there are trees along the street. . .

I always miss the states, and wanna go back to California and walk by the beach.

But Tokyo ain't bad either.

Gotta love my city!

Things I am looking forward to in Thailand

I am so excited about the trip to Thailand, and can't stop thinking about it!
I sometimes think that the most fun part of the trip is planning!

タイ旅行が楽しみで、ずっと頭の中でタイがぐるぐるしています。
旅行の中での一番楽しいパートは行く前の計画なんでは、と思うほど

I have to say I love planning!
Whoever I go to the trip with, I am the one who plans the whole trip!
How intense I can make the trip. . . that is the hard but fun part of it.
I always think that I wanna have a relaxed and chilling time, but I end up thinking that I don't wanna regret or don't wanna miss anything there.

計画するのが大好き。
事前にどれだけ充実したつめこんでプランを練ることができるか。
ゆるい旅がしたいと思いつつも、いつも後悔したくない！という想いで
みっちりつめこんだプランを考えてしまいます。

今回の旅行で楽しみにしていることの１つはホテル！

One of the things which I am excited about the most is the hotel!
今回はグランドセンターポイント　スクンビット　- ターミナル21に泊ります。
We are going to stay at Grande Centre Point Sukhumvit -Treminal 21.

This hotel opened in 2011, and one of the newest hotels in Bangkok!
There is a shopping center under the hotel, and it is connected to 2 major train lines.
Seems very convenient and nice! 
I heard that the bathrooms in the shopping center are pretty interesting. I have to take some pics and put up in this blog!

このホテルは2011年にオープンしたばかり。
下の階はショッピングセンター、2つのメインの路線に直結しているとのこと。
とっても便利、かつ良さそう！
このショッピングセンター、噂によるとトイレがすごいらしい。
要チェックです。

もう１つ、楽しみにしているホテルが・・・。

そう、あの「サヨナライツカ」で中山美穂が滞在していたホテルです。
実際に多くの著名人が愛したホテル。
Yes, Toko, the main character, who Miho Nakayama played, stayed at this hotel in the movie called "SAYONARA ITSUKA"
Not only in the movie, many celebrities actually enjoyed staying in this hotel in real life as well.

ここでアフタヌーンティーをたしなむ。
サヨナライツカを見てから、描いていた小さな夢を叶えてきたいと思います。
I would like to enjoy afternoon tea there.
It is one of my small dreams I have had since I saw the movie, and I would like to make it come true this time. Isn't it so exciting?!

 

タイフード、王宮、寺院、バー、ショッピング・・・まだまだ楽しみなものはいっぱい。

Nice weekend

Had  a very relaxing weekend!

I went for a run---. I had bought PUMA shoes, and was so excited to wear them and run.

It actually was nice. It didn't hurt and didn't get tired that time.

Today, my muscles are really stiff from the run yesterday thought.

昨日はランニングに出かけました！プーマのスニーカーを購入したので、週末をとても楽しみしていましたー。ランニングは久しぶりでとても気持ちよかったです。

スニーカーだと全然つかれない！

今日は筋肉痛がひどかったけど・・・。

Also, I cooked last night! I made pork spare ribs!
Mmmm, yummy!
It was so easy! Boiled the pork for about 20 minutes.
While boiling the pork, grind a piece of ginger, garlic, and a half of an onion.
Then, put them in and make the sauce with soy sauce, sugar, honey, and cooking sake.
After boiled the pork, makes some cuts in pork and put them in the sauce.
Boil the pork with the sauce till the sauce soaks into the pork.


この英語であってるのかな・・・。
心配ですが。
スペアリブをつくったので、そのレシピを英語で書いてみました！
とっても簡単！
ポイントはお肉を先にしっかり茹でて、油抜きすること。
ソースはお好みで砂糖、ハチミツ、醤油の量を加減してください。
我が家は甘めが好きなので、砂糖とハチミツを多めに　:)
おいしくできました♪

I used to love this holiday when I was in the states.


アメリカでは今日7月4日は独立記念日。
独立記念日とサンクスギビングはアメリカのホリデーの中でも大好きな祝日でした。
カリフォルニアはもうこの時期は夏！海辺や友だちの家に集まります。

ビールがおいしい！
チップスにつけるスピナッチディップがたまらない。
バーベキューも思い思いに楽しみます。


どんどんたくさんの人が集まってきて楽しかったな。


夜は花火！砂浜に寝そべって、すぐ近くにあがる花火を見るのは日本の花火とはまた違った雰囲気で開放感があります。

アメリカの祝日って、人が集まってパーティーすることがとっても多い。日本はお正月くらいだけれど。だから、ただの休日とは違う思い出を毎年積み重ねていけるところが素敵だな、って思います。
